Learning Objective(s)

After participating in this program, GPs will be better able to:

  1. Describe symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and be able to identify patients with certain IBS subtypes in the community setting
  2. Differentiate between the major classes of therapies for IBS and constipation, including over-the-counter and prescribed products
  3. Recommend appropriate lifestyle and medication choices to improve patient quality of life while optimising safety
  4. Recognise when referral to a gastroenterologist is required
