White Paper: Adopting an Individualized Approach to Influenza Vaccination in Older Adults

Overview

Adults 65 years of age and older are at higher risk of severe influenza disease, hospitalization, and death, compared to younger adults. During the 2023-2024 season in Canada, adults ≥ 65 years of age accounted for most influenza-associated hospitalizations (45%) and deaths (71%) and had the highest cumulative hospitalization rate (199 per 100,000 population) overall.
