  1. Describe the role of anticoagulation for stroke prevention in atrial fibrillation (AF), and for the treatment of venous thromboembolism (VTE)
  2. Evaluate stroke risk in patients with AF
  3. Discuss the indications for anticoagulation therapy in patients with AF
  4. Discuss new oral anticoagulant treatment options for patients with AF and VTE
  5. Determine how to most effectively implement the new oral anticoagulants for the prevention of stroke in patients with AF and the treatment of VTE into clinical practice
