Cancer is the leading cause of death of Canadians. An estimated 2 in 5 Canadians will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime and approximately 1 in 4 will die from it. Management advancements has led to improved outcomes and quality of life for oncology patients. With screening and early-stage diagnosis being so fundamental to survival and optimal outcomes, primary care clinicians play a key role in identification and screening patients at risk. These clinicians also play an important role in supporting these patients before, during and after active cancer treatment.
