Learning Objective(s)

After completing this program, GPs will be better able to:

  1. Determine what defines an exacerbation, and review the importance of managing exacerbations early and preventing future exacerbations.
  2. Counsel patients to recognise the signs of an exacerbation and the importance of slowing the progression of the disease which occurs with each exacerbation.
  3. Implement timely interventions to reduce the risk of exacerbations in all patients with COPD, including patients who have frequent exacerbations.
  4. Consider the adverse effects associated with exacerbations and COPD treatments.
