After completing this learning program, participants will be better able to:
- Appraise the impact that the symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) can have on patients’ quality of life, and the potentially serious complications of BPH.
- Select the relevant tests and tools for timely diagnosis of BPH, and the role of these investigations in guiding management decisions.
- Accurately diagnose and actively manage patients with BPH, and safely acknowledge when to refer patients to a specialist urologist.
- Review the role of pharmacotherapy, including the mono- and combination pharmacotherapy, in reducing clinical progression of BPH and the likelihood of BPH-related surgery, and the implications on patient safety.
