Course Description

Upon completion of this program, participants will be able to:

Module 1 :

  • Determine which patients should be referred for COPD screening with spirometry
  • Discuss the importance of spirometry in COPD assessment
  • Interpret the clinical relevance of a patient’s spirometry results
  • Review the guideline recommended treatment of patients with mild COPD

Module 2:

  • Discuss the frequency of medication administration errors with inhalation devices
  • Review the key features of each of the common inhalation devices used in patients with COPD
  • Counsel a patient on the different options for each class of COPD inhaled medication
  • Customize the device based on the needs of the patient

Module 3:

  • Review the impact of exacerbations on COPD progression
  • Discuss the management of acute exacerbations of COPD
  • Adjust a patient’s COPD regimen in response to exacerbations

Module 4:

  • Review the GOLD/CTS guideline recommendations for dual bronchodilation
  • Explore the role of dual bronchodilation in the management of COPD
  • Discuss the evidence for removing inhaled corticosteroid in patients with stable COPD
