Course Description

The changing conversation around obesity as a chronic and complex health condition shifts the focus to treatments that align with the pathophysiology of obesity. Obesity pharmacotherapy, when used as an adjunct to medical nutrition therapy and physical activity, can produce an additional average weight loss of 5–17%. Shifting patients’ and health care providers’ attitudes, beliefs, and knowledge about the complex causes of obesity is crucial to dispelling the misconceptions around obesity. In this podcast, Dr. Shahebina Walji and Dr. Akshay Jain address the evolving understanding of obesity, the importance of establishing a non-judgemental therapeutic relationship with patients, and the use of pharmacotherapy as an adjunct to obesity management.
