Learning objectives
After completing this learning module, pharmacists will be better able to:
- Identify when a topical corticosteroid is warranted in addition to a topical antifungal in managing common fungal skin infections in children and adults
- Review the role of combination products containing topical corticosteroid/antifungal medications, and advise patients on their appropriate use to maximise efficacy and safety
- Recall current Australian guideline recommendations on the selection of combined topical antifungal and corticosteroid treatments indicated for common fungal skin infections
- Counsel patients on the dose, application and duration of combined topical antifungal and corticosteroid creams in managing itch associated with fungal skin infections
