Nearly 1 in 2 Canadians is expected to be diagnosed with cancer at some point in their lifetime. In 2017, 206,200 new cases of cancer were diagnosed and 80,800 deaths occurred. Although an increasing number of Canadians are surviving at least 5 years after their cancer diagnosis, cancer is the leading cause of death of Canadians. Approximately 1 in 4 Canadians is expected to die from cancer.
Community pharmacists are playing an increasingly important role in supporting patients undergoing chemotherapy. This program is designed to provide pharmacists with an overview of this role that addresses common issues seen with breast cancer management in the community practice setting.
