  1. Review the evidence for efficacy and safety of the novel oral anticoagulants (NOACs) in prevention of thrombo-embolic complications of non-valvular atrial fibrillation (NVAF)
  2. Appreciate the clinical circumstances in which patients with NVAF are currently prescribed NOACs in Australia and understand the advantages and disadvantages of these drugs for this indication
  3. Optimise the safe practical management of patients receiving direct thrombin inhibitors (DTIs) in the acute medical and surgical setting
  4. Identify patient groups who may be at particular risk of complications from these drugs.
