Gout is a painful condition involving the deposition of monosodium urate crystals in the body, particularly in the joints, soft tissues and kidneys.
The prevalence of gout is increasing worldwide, particularly in affluent countries, such as Australia, where an estimated 5.2% of adults are affected. Although gout is associated with significantly reduced health-related quality of life and comorbidity, management in Australia and worldwide remains suboptimal.
The fourth of this four-part series explores optimising outcomes for patients with gout in general practice through a patient case study.
Participants must read all 4 issues and then complete the questions on Issue 4 to claim RACGP CPD points.
