Vaccine hesitancy challenges the overwhelming scientific evidence that supports the effectiveness of vaccines to prevent infectious disease. In Canada, vaccine hesitancy is defined as “reluctance to receive recommended vaccination because of concerns and doubts or refusal of one, many or all vaccines.” While most individuals follow the recommended guidelines for immunization and available vaccines, there are still about 70% of parents who are concerned about side effects. Fortunately, a very small percentage (1.5%) of children in Canada have never received a vaccine.
