By the end of this session, participants will be better able to:

  1. Confidently set goals for patients with depression to include restoring functioning and preventing relapse
  2. Understand the mechanisms of drug metabolism and how they can be used strategically to optimise remission and long-term outcomes
  3. Recognise clinical and educational techniques to promote adherence to antidepressant therapy
  4. Understand appropriate prescribing in patients with multiple co-morbidities and concomitant medications, with a view to maximising efficacy and patient safety
  5. Recognise the ways that genetic polymorphisms can impact the efficacy of psychotropic medications, particularly given the wide individual variations in the metabolism of drugs
