At the conclusion of this session the learner will be able to:

  1. Explain the epidemiology, pathophysiology and natural history of chronic hepatitis B;
  2. Identify the poor health outcomes associated with hepatitis B disease progression, including increasing liver fibrosis, cirrhosis, end-stage liver disease and hepatocellular carcinoma;
  3. List the different serologic and fibrosis assessment tests for diagnosis and monitoring; and
  4. Apply the current recommendations relating to the management and treatment of chronic hepatitis B in Canada.
