Diabetes at Diagnosis: Primary Care Patient Case
Approximately 29% of Canadians have prediabetes or diabetes. The primary care clinician is crucial in the diagnosis of patients with type 2 diabetes through routine screening and evaluation of patients at risk. All patients diagnosed with type 2 diabetes require a comprehensive assessment to help guide the different management strategies to improve glycemic control and reduce the risk of diabetes complications. This module will review some of the key considerations at the diagnosis of patients with type 2 diabetes and the important role of the primary care clinician in optimizing the delivery of care at this crucial stage of diabetes management.
