Non-valvular atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common type of arrhythmia, affecting 350,000 Canadians. Its incidence increases with age, and it is more common in people with diabetes, hypertension, and underlying coronary disease. Healthcare practitioners will see increasing numbers of people in their practice with AF due to the aging population and the rise in these chronic diseases.

AF increases the risk of stroke 3 to 5 fold, independent of age. Therapeutic anticoagulation is important in AF to reduce stroke risk. This program supports healthcare professionals in identifying and managing AF in their patients and addresses important clinical considerations such as who to screen, how to manage bleeding risk in the elderly, and the role of ‘real wrld data’ in guiding clinical decisions.
