Learning objectives
After participating in this program, GPs will be better able to:
- Describe symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and be able to identify patients with certain IBS subtypes in the community setting
- Differentiate between the major classes of therapies for IBS and constipation, including over-the-counter and prescribed products
- Recommend appropriate lifestyle and medication choices to improve patient quality of life while optimising safety
- Recognise when referral to a gastroenterologist is required
