Allied healthcare professionals who are currently working or interested in working in bariatric medicine looking to gain the expertise, necessary tools and strategies to approach, assess and manage patients with obesity.

What is the Certification Criteria?

Obesity Canada will verify through your Application Form that you have completed all the pre-requisites to this exam including:

  1. Successful completion of one of the following courses, or a comparable course:
    • American Board of Obesity Medicine (ABOM)
    • Advanced Obesity Management Program (AOMP)
    • Obesity Canada/Learning Retreat on the Principles and Practice of Interdisciplinary Obesity Management
    • Strategic Centre for Obesity Professional Education (SCOPE)
    • 5AsT full day workshop
  2. 700 hours of practical experience related to obesity management within a medical or allied healthcare professional setting and a letter from the employer
  3. An active healthcare practitioner license in good standing

What is the Certification Process?

  1. Upon proof of certification criteria and payment, you will receive the link to the online course through the website.
  2. The final exam will consist of 4 sections and a passing mark of 80% or more is required to be eligible for certification.
  3. Upon successful completion of the exam, you will receive an electronic certificate
  4. You will then be able to add the credentials to your signature.
