Female Factor Infertility
Infertility is defined as the inability to conceive a pregnancy after 12 months of unprotected sexual intercourse, and affects about 1 in 6 Australian couples of reproductive age. With approximately 40% of fertility issues arising from the female reproductive system, module 1 will focus on female factor infertility. As there are many causes of female factor infertility, a thorough history, targeted physical examination and prompt diagnostic evaluation are critical components required to accurately identify root causes and initiate management. Optimal management will help improve health outcomes and can also help to minimise other, often detrimental, impacts on psychosocial well-being and quality of life. This module will review the diagnosis and management of common causes of female factor infertility, highlighting treatment options for enhancing fertility specific to each condition.
