Learning objectives
- Recognise the signs of uncontrolled asthma.
- Be aware that ICS work synergistically with LABA to improve asthma control.
- Recall the available options in asthma medication administration devices, and be aware that the convenience of combination inhalers may lead to higher rates of adherence to therapy.
- Recognise that poor asthma control may be the result of other factors such as non-adherence, incorrect inhaler technique or poor patient symptom perception.
- Understand that for the purposes of patient safety, medication should be down titrated once control has been achieved to the lowest possible dose that maintains control with the least adverse effects.
