This education program for nurses addresses national issues and opportunities in influenza immunisation for adults age 65 years and older, with the aim of supporting optimal decision-making in nursing practice, based on:
- the particular burden of influenza-related illness among older adults
- age-related changes in immunity (immunosenescence)
- current opportunities for stimulating influenza immunity in the older adult population
- the importance of immunisation for older adults and those who can transmit influenza to them
The 2018 influenza immunisation recommendations can be found in the Australian Immunisation Handbook.
