The prevalence of diabetes is increasing in Canada, and a number of strategies have shown to be beneficial in delaying or preventing the onset of type 2 diabetes. Through informed conversations and care, the risk of developing type 2 diabetes can be quantified, and interventions can be implemented for people at risk, including people with pre-diabetes or gestational diabetes, to reduce the progression of type 2 diabetes. In this podcast, Dr. Jeff Winterstein and Dr. Sara Stafford discuss identifying those at higher risk of diabetes progression, having conversations around sustainable behaviour and lifestyle changes, and using pharmacotherapy as part of an individualized approach to reducing the risk of progression to type 2 diabetes.
