Australia has one of the highest asthma rates worldwide and although current treatments are very effective, 5-10% of people with asthma will still experience severe asthma. People with severe asthma report daily shortness of breath, wheeze, cough and frequent night waking due to symptoms. Severe asthma can be debilitating and may influence relationships, social interactions, career choice and travel and physical activity ranging from sports to daily tasks.
