The contribution of the GP in managing patients with early Alzheimer’s disease – is there a role for recommending medical foods? – Certificate of Completion

On completion of the program GPs will be better able to:

1. Review current understanding on the physiology of Alzheimer’s disease including the significance of synaptic loss on cognitive function.
2. Describe the key clinical signs of early Alzheimer’s disease as well as recall the diagnostic criteria and key differentials for the condition.
3. Examine the evidence on the role of nutrition in the maintenance of healthy synapses, and the particular key nutrients associated with synaptic functioning of the aging brain, including memory and cognition.
4. Recognise the opportunities to optimise nutrition for patients with early Alzheimer’s disease, and the potential role that medical foods can play in nutritionally supporting synaptic function and memory in early Alzheimer’s disease.
