- Review the evidence for efficacy and safety of the novel oral anticoagulants (NOACs) in prevention of thrombo-embolic complications of non-valvular atrial fibrillation (NVAF)
- Appreciate the clinical circumstances in which patients with NVAF are currently prescribed NOACs in Australia and understand the advantages and disadvantages of these drugs for this indication
- Optimise the safe practical management of patients receiving direct thrombin inhibitors (DTIs) in the acute medical and surgical setting
- Identify patient groups who may be at particular risk of complications from these drugs.
