Insulin initiation for type 2 diabetes in primary care – critical role for practice nurses – Australian Practice Nurses Association

On completion of this program, participants will be better able to:

1. Identify patients requiring review by the GP for individualisation of treatments and targets in type 2 diabetes
2. Communicate to patients the benefits of timely insulin initiation in type 2 diabetes
3. Appreciate practical challenges of insulin initiation and intensification, and assist patients in meeting these challenges
4. Ensure patient safety through awareness of hypoglycaemia as a side effect of insulin therapy
