After completing this learning program, participants will be better able to:

  1. Describe the complexity and prevalence of chronic non-cancer pain, and appreciate the role of pharmacists in managing pain
  2. Identify multimodal pain management strategies, including non-pharmacological and pharmacological approaches
  3. Recognise that opioids are only indicated in a well selected group of patients with chronic non-cancer pain and not all patients are appropriate nor will benefit from opioid therapy. Distinguish the common and significant side effects associated with short- and long-term opioid therapy, understand the impact upon patient compliance and be familiar with therapy options and practical tips to help minimise risk.
