More than 152 countries have implemented the initiative, with proven impact in increasing the likelihood of babies being exclusively breastfed for the first 6 months.<sup>1<\/sup><sup>2<\/sup><\/p>\n<p>All healthcare providers working within any type of practice have the opportunity to implement the principles of Baby-Friendly<sup>TM<\/sup> care and to counsel and support families to protect, promote, and support breastfeeding for improved health outcomes.\n<\/p>\n<p>In Canada, the BFHI is called the Baby-Friendly<sup>TM<\/sup> Initiative (BFI).<sup>2<\/sup> The Breastfeeding Committee for Canada (BCC), a Health Canada initiative established in 1991, is the national authority for the BFI in Canada.
