Its incidence increases with age, and it is more common in people with diabetes, hypertension, and underlying coronary disease.  Healthcare practitioners will see increasing numbers of people in their practice with AF due to the aging population and the rise in these chronic diseases.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>AF increases the risk of stroke 3 to 5 fold, independent of age. Therapeutic anticoagulation is important in AF to reduce stroke risk.
