The historical journey from superstition to scientific understanding has greatly influenced the contemporary landscape of epilepsy research and treatment. Dating back to ancient times, epilepsy was often shrouded in misconceptions and attributed to supernatural causes. It was not until the late 19<sup>th<\/sup> and early 20<sup>th<\/sup> centuries that scientific advancements, such as the discovery of the electrical nature of brain activity, laid the foundation for a more accurate understanding of epilepsy. This newfound knowledge spurred the development of early treatments, including the introduction of antiseizure medications in the mid-20<sup>th<\/sup> century. While traditional antiseizure medications (ASMs) have been the cornerstone of epilepsy management for decades, a significant proportion of patients continue to experience seizures despite treatment.
