Several risk factors increase the risk of developing the condition, and some unique obstacles in Canadian healthcare hinder early detection.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Incidence<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lung cancer is the leading cause of death for males and females in Canada and is the most commonly diagnosed cancer. The incidence is higher in males at\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC9067380\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">61 per 100,000 cases<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> compared to 57.2 per 100,000 in females.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In 2022, reports estimated that\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/cancer.ca\/en\/cancer-information\/cancer-types\/lung\/statistics\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">30,000 Canadians<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> would be diagnosed with lung cancer, representing 13 percent of all new cancer diagnoses.
