Learning objectives

After the webinar, the participant will be able to:

  • Describe the basic microbiology of RSV
  • Understand why RSV is underdiagnosed in Australia and to reconsider their role in RSV surveillance, testing and diagnosis when infants or young children present with respiratory symptoms
  • Recognise how RSV presents in infants and children and apply this knowledge during a consult in a COVID-19 pandemic affected Australia
  • Be aware of the out of season resurgence, resultant disease burden and the impact it has had on health services
  • Compare and contrast RSV therapeutic options and prevention both current and future with other respiratory viral infections
