The GP’s role in heart failure management
This program will assist GPs to identify patients at an earlier stage of the disease, detail effective interventions and thereby help GPs delay disease progression for their patients with heart failure.
This online learning program will help GPs gain confidence in identifying symptoms and signs of heart failure, implement management algorithms as per published guidelines in the care of heart failure patients, identify and manage potential side effects of medicines used to treat heart failure. The course details the range of treatment options available to manage heart failure, and features elements of a multidisciplinary team-based approach to improve outcomes for patients with heart failure.

Heart failure is the most rapidly growing cardiovascular condition worldwide, imposing a substantial burden in terms of life expectancy, quality of life and health care costs. Repeated hospitalisation, high readmission rates and poor overall survival are key features of chronic heart failure.
This program is supported by an independent educational grant provided from Novartis.

Learning objectives
On completion of this program, GPs will be better able to:
- Demonstrate increased confidence in identifying symptoms and signs of heart failure (NYHA class II-III heart failure patients)
- Describe the range of treatment options available to manage heart failure
- Implement management algorithms as per published guidelines and consensus statements in the care of heart failure patients
- Identify and manage potential side effects of medicines used to treat heart failure
- Outline the benefit of a multidisciplinary team approach in managing patients with heart failure
