Stroke and Diabetes: Guidelines and Key Considerations (SCFHS)
People living with diabetes are at a higher risk for stroke than those without diabetes. Recent evidence shows that certain drugs have demonstrated an ability to reduce the risk of stroke in individuals with type 2 diabetes.
This module will review data from cardiovascular outcome trials and meta-analyses, along with the recommendations from the Saudi Diabetes Clinical Practice (SDCP) Guidelines, for optimizing cardiovascular care in this population.

Upon completion of this continuing education program participants will be better able to:
- Describe the risk of stroke in patients with diabetes
- Summarize the evidence for different antihyperglycemic agents on stroke reduction
- Discuss recommendations from the Saudi Diabetes Clinical Practice Guidelines for patients with type 2 diabetes and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD)
- Adjust a patient’s diabetes regimen to provide cardiovascular protection, according to the Saudi Diabetes Clinical Practice Guidelines
