This module describes the evidence for both remission and regulation of type 2 diabetes and provides an example of how clinicians can engage with patients to facilitate shared decision-making. The module also reviews how to individualize diabetes treatment according to patient values, preferences, and priorities.

- Discuss the evidence for remission of diabetes.
- Initiate diabetes treatment in newly-diagnosed patients with type 2 diabetes, according to the Diabetes Canada guidelines.
- Start a conversation with patients to enable shared decision making for treatment initiation.
- Individualize treatment according to patient concerns and priorities.
