Vasomotor instability, including hot flashes and night sweats, happens to about 80% of women during menopause, and family physicians can play a key role in providing these women with timely and appropriate menopausal hormone therapy (MHT) for symptom relief and increased quality of life. In this podcast, Dr. Vivien Brown and Dr. Alison Shea highlight the newest SOGC guideline recommendations, and discuss the approach to managing vasomotor symptoms of menopause. The benefits, risks, contraindications and use of MHT are reviewed, to empower family physicians in providing menopausal women with safe and accessible MHT options for vasomotor symptom management.
