Learning objectives
By the end of this session, participants will be better able to:
- Confidently set goals for patients with depression to include restoring functioning and preventing relapse
- Understand the mechanisms of drug metabolism and how they can be used strategically to optimise remission and long-term outcomes
- Recognise clinical and educational techniques to promote adherence to antidepressant therapy
- Understand appropriate prescribing in patients with multiple co-morbidities and concomitant medications, with a view to maximising efficacy and patient safety
- Recognise the ways that genetic polymorphisms can impact the efficacy of psychotropic medications, particularly given the wide individual variations in the metabolism of drugs
