Learning objectives
- Identify patients at possible risk of urinary tract infections, and describe factors that predispose women to urinary tract infections
- Identify common pathogens associated with urinary tract infections, appreciate which pathogens commonly develop resistance and the impact this has on treatment outcomes
- Compare over the counter therapies currently available for urinary tract infections
- Differentiate between the modes of action and roles of short-term antibiotic treatment and long-term prophylaxis with bacteriostatic agents, and be aware how these impact on patient safety
