Insomnia is the most prevalent sleep disorder and affects a large portion of the Canadian population on a recurrent or chronic basis. Insomnia is associated with significant adverse health outcomes, including a reduction in quality of life, physical and psychological health. Although primary care clinicians commonly see these patients in their practice, some are unsure of the optimal method of insomnia management. This lesson will review the evidence-based recommendations to manage insomnia in practice.
