Blood glucose monitoring has evolved from self-monitoring of blood glucose (SMBG) to interstitial glucose monitoring, which includes intermittently scanned CGM (isCGM) and real-time CGM (rtCGM). Similarly, insulin delivery has evolved from the use of metal syringes in the 1920s to smart pens and insulin pumps.
